Rio Tinto Future Fund

Rio Tinto finds, mines and processes the earth's mineral resources - metals and minerals essential for making thousands of everyday products that meet society's needs and contribute to improved living standards.

In Western Australia, Rio Tinto has iron ore, diamond, talc, salt and exploration businesses.

We are committed to supporting projects that contribute to a stronger and more sustainable Western Australia.

Through the Rio Tinto WA Future Fund, we work with organisations that make a positive and lasting difference to Western Australian communities in the key focus areas of arts and culture, health, education and the environment.

The Rio Tinto WA Future Fund was established in 2001, and since then we have worked with 39 partners, distributing nearly $27 million. In 2008 alone, more than 600 community projects were supported by Rio Tinto in Western Australia.

As long term partners of Conservation Volunteers Australia, we have seen first hand the incredible impact that community volunteers have made on the Western Australian environment.

With the introduction of Rio Tinto Earth Assist, we can enable students to step outside the classroom and take part in hands-on activities that will make a real and positive difference to their community and natural environment.

For Rio Tinto, the project provides another great opportunity to give back to the community beyond the economic contribution of our business.

We encourage all students to be part of Rio Tinto Earth Assist and hope it is the start of a long involvement with volunteering and our natural environment.
